Fence Posts

Fence posts are large stakes that are sunk into the ground. The fence posts are sunk into the ground so that they can become free standing, and than the actual fencing material is attached to the fence posts, allowing the fencing material to sit upright and provide a barrier usually around a property line or to protect some type of property.

There are a few options for fence posts to be made from.  Metal fences posts are very popular and are durable. Usually fence posts that are constructed from metal are either made from aluminum, steel or iron. Iron has been a favorite for fence posts through out the ages, but since the nineteen seventies iron fence posts have been largely replaced by the cheaper aluminum fence posts.

Wood is another favorite material for fence posts. Wooden fence posts have been around for centuries. Today there are PVC options available for fence posts. Plastic PVC fence posts have become very popular in the last few years, because they require no maintenance, do not rot or rust and are just as strong as the metal and wood fence posts.

Fence posts are the back bone to any fence and keep the fence held in place, fence posts usually require maintenance to be sure that they remain stable. Wooden fence posts will have to be painted yearly and checked for any rot and replaced if they begin to rot, typically wooden fence posts are manufactured out of pressure treated wood which is supposed to be more resilient to the weather but it does not necessarily work out that way. Metal fence posts will also require yearly maintenance in the form of treating for rust or being painted.

The most expensive types of fence posts are the newest types fashioned from PVC. The cost can be double the cost of wooden fence posts, but the PVC fence posts have a life expectancy at least twice as long as wooden fence posts. So the cost is offset by the length of time that the PVC fence posts will last and the fact that there is zero maintenance involved in caring for the PVC fence posts.

ooden fence posts can be very reasonably priced but the life span of wooden fence posts are typically half that of the metal fence posts. The costs of metal fence posts varies, depending on how ornate the fence posts are and what material they are fashioned from.
